Product details

What is Dermol 500 Lotion

Dermol 500 Lotion is an antimicrobial and emollient (softening and moisturising) treatment for application to dry or problem skin.

It is for use in two ways:

  • as a leave-on application
  • as a soap-substitute

It helps treat and prevent dry and itchy (pruritic) skin conditions, especially eczema and dermatitis.

All age groups can use Dermol 500 Lotion, including babies.

There are two types of the active ingredient in this product:

Benzalkonium chloride and chlorhexidine dihydrochloride are antimicrobials. These help to:

  • combat bacteria present on your skin that can make eczema worse
  • prevent infection caused by scratching itchy skin.

Liquid paraffin and isopropyl myristate are emollients that help to:

  • soften, moisturise and protect your skin by trapping moisture in the skin and restoring the normal protective function of the skin
  • prevent the skin-drying and irritant effects that can be caused by washing and bathing and by the soaps, foaming additives and fragrances used in ordinary skin cleansing products.

This product can be used in addition to any other emollients or treatments your doctor or pharmacist may have given or prescribed for you to treat your dry skin condition.

How to use Dermol 500 Lotion

Use it only on the skin. For maximum benefit, you should use this product on a regular basis and as often as required.

Before using the 500 ml bottle, turn the top of the pump dispenser anti-clockwise to unlock it.

After unlocking, you will need to press down the pump dispenser several times to prime the pump before any product is dispensed.

The same instructions apply for all age groups:

For use as a leave-on application

  • Apply Dermol 500 Lotion to the affected areas.
  • Gently smooth into the skin.
  • If necessary, allow time for any excess to soak in. Do not rub the skin vigorously.
  • Reapply as often as required.
  • If you are applying another treatment to the same areas of skin as Dermol 500 Lotion, try to avoid mixing the two products. This can be achieved by applying the treatments alternately, leaving sufficient time to allow the previous application to soak in.

For use as a soap substitute

  • Use Dermol 500 Lotion to wash with instead of your ordinary soap or shower gel. It will not foam or lather like ordinary cosmetic products.
  • After washing, bathing or showering, pat the skin dry with a soft towel (avoid rubbing as this can make dry skin conditions worse).

What does Dermol 500 Lotion contain?

The active ingredients in this product are benzalkonium chloride (0.1% w/w), chlorhexidine dihydrochloride (0.1% w/w), liquid paraffin (2.5% w/w) and isopropyl myristate (2.5% w/w).

The other ingredients are cetostearyl alcohol, macrogol cetostearyl ether (cetomacrogol 1000), phenoxyethanol and purified water.

What is Eumovate Eczema and Dermatitis Cream 0.05%?

Eumovate is used for the short-term treatment and control of patches of red, itchy skin caused by eczema and dermatitis. The cream stops the skin’s over-reaction to the triggers that cause skin flare-ups, such as eczema or dermatitis. The active ingredient is clobetasone butyrate, a topical corticosteroid to control skin inflammation. The cream base also has moisturising properties.

When can I use Eumovate Cream?

Eumovate cream contains a steroid that reduces inflammation and flare-ups of psoriasis or eczema, often associated with swelling, itching, redness and irritation.

What is eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis?

Eczema is a dry skin condition which makes skin feel itchy, dry and irritated. Dermatitis is a sort of inflammation triggered when the skin comes in contact with something irritable, like harsh additives or disinfectants. Psoriasis is characterised by flaky, red skin patches covered in silver scales, which may be sore and itchy. Flare-ups of eczema and psoriasis may involve:

    • Dry skin
    • Redness
    • Itching
    • Blisters
    • Cracked skin
    • Inflammation

    Managing eczema and dermatitis

Skin specialist advice - Skin specialists often advise people with eczema or dermatitis to use emollient (moisturising) skin products, including creams and bath oils, to keep moisture in the skin. This can make your skin more resistant to flare-ups. Avoid using soap and heavily scented products.

If a rash comes back - Sometimes people with dermatitis find their rash soon comes back after treatment or never disappears completely. This is often because they are still in contact with their trigger, i.e. what causes the reaction.

Common triggers of eczema and dermatitis include:

    • Jewellery, including earrings or studs (especially gold-plated earrings)
    • Coins
    • Watch buckles, metal straps or the metal back of a watch
    • Metal studs or fastenings on jeans, bras or underwear.

All of these have a metal in them called nickel, which is a very common trigger. If you react badly to nickel, all of the triggers in the list could be a problem. So, if you’ve reacted badly to one of the common triggers, you’ll need to watch out for the other common triggers.

Other common triggers of eczema and dermatitis include:

    • In the home: such as plasters, furniture polish, varnishes, rubber gloves or elastic in clothes
    • In substances you use at work, such as glues, oils, lubricants or cement
    • In the garden: certain plants and weeds, gardening gloves.

    How to use Eumovate Cream

    • Adults and children 12 years and over: Use the cream once or twice daily for up to 7 days.
    • Wash and dry your hands.
    • Squeeze out the correct amount of cream onto your index finger.
    • Half a fingertip will cover a patch of skin the same size as the palm of your hand.
    • Gently rub cream into the skin you are treating once or twice a day.
    • Wash your hands again (unless it is your hands you are treating).

How much Eumovate Cream to use

    • Squeeze out the cream along the top of your index finger
    • Squeeze the cream halfway to your fingertip from the crease in your finger. This will cover a patch of skin the same size as the palm of your hand.
    • Use the fingertip unit as a guide. For smaller areas, use a smaller amount. This cream is not meant to treat large areas.
    • If you use too much of the cream by mistake, don’t worry – but try to keep to the fingertip unit.
    • Half a fingertip will cover a patch of skin the same size as the palm of your hand.

    Important information about Eumovate

Eumovate contains a moderate steroid and should only be used for short-term use (maximum one week). Thin layers of Eumovate must be applied, as steroids thin the skin. Eumovate cannot be applied to infected, oozing skin or open wounds. If the condition does not improve or worsens after using Eumovate, then treatment should be discontinued, and you should consult your doctor. Eumovate must not be applied to the genital or facial regions.

We recommend using your EyeBag® twice a day for the first fortnight. After this 3-4 times a week is usual but adjust according to the severity of your symptoms.

What is Clotrimazole Cream 1% Fungal Treatment?

The active substance is clotrimazole. Clotrimazole belongs to a group of medicines called imidazoles and is an antifungal agent which fights the cause of fungal skin infections.

Clotrimazole is used to treat fungal skin infections such as ringworm, athlete’s foot, fungal nappy rash and fungal sweat rash. It is also used to relieve irritation of the vulva (external thrush) or the end of the penis, which may be associated with thrush.

When Clotrimazole is applied to the infected area of skin, it works by destroying the fungus or yeast which has caused the infection.

How to use Clotrimazole Cream 1% Fungal Treatment

    • Before use, pierce the tube seal by inverting the cap over the end of the tube and press.
    • If the feet are infected, they should be washed and dried thoroughly, especially between the toes, before applying the cream.
    • Clotrimazole should be applied thinly and evenly to the affected areas, two or three times daily and rubbed in gently.
    • A strip of cream (½ cm long) is enough to treat an area of about the size of the hand.
    • The duration of the treatment depends upon the type of infection. Use the cream for at least two weeks for candida (thrush) infections or at least one month for other infections.
    • If you have athlete’s foot, it may help to use an antifungal dusting powder as well. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to recommend one.

The symptoms of skin infection such as itching or soreness should improve within a few days of treatment, although signs such as redness and scaling may take longer to disappear. If symptoms persist, consult your doctor.

What does Clotrimazole Cream 1% Fungal Treatment contain

The active substance is clotrimazole. Each gram of cream contains 10 mg of clotrimazole (i.e. 1% w/w).

    What is Dermol Cream

Dermol Cream is an antimicrobial and emollient (softening and moisturising) treatment for application to dry or problem skin.

It is for use in two ways:

    • as a leave-on application
    • as a soap substitute.

It helps treat and prevent dry and itchy (pruritic) skin conditions, especially eczema and dermatitis.

All age groups can use Dermol Cream, including babies.

There are two types of active ingredients in this product:

Benzalkonium chloride and chlorhexidine dihydrochloride are antimicrobials that help to:

    How to use Dermol Cream

Use it only on the skin. For maximum benefit, you should use it on a regular basis and as often as required.

Before using the cream, turn the top of the pump dispenser anti-clockwise to unlock it. After unlocking, you will need to press down the pump dispenser several times to prime the pump before any product is dispensed.

The same instructions apply for all age groups:

For use as a leave-on application:

    • Apply Dermol Cream to the affected areas.
    • Gently smooth into the skin.
    • If necessary, allow time for any excess to soak in. Do not rub the skin vigorously.
    • Reapply as often as required.
    • If you are applying another treatment to the same areas of skin as Dermol Cream, try to avoid mixing the two products. This can be achieved by applying the treatments alternately, leaving sufficient time to allow the previous application to soak in.

For use as a soap substitute

    • Use Dermol Cream to wash with instead of your ordinary soap or shower gel. It will not foam or lather like ordinary cosmetic products.
    • After washing, bathing or showering, pat the skin dry with a soft towel (avoid rubbing as this can make dry skin conditions worse).

If you forget to use Dermol Cream

Do not worry if you occasionally forget to use it, just carry on using the product as described the next time you require it.

If the product gets into the eyes

The product may cause irritation if it gets into the eyes. Rinse the eyes with plenty of water. If rinsing one eye, take care to avoid washing the product into the other eye. If irritation persists, seek medical advice.

    What does Dermol Cream contain

The active ingredients in this product are benzalkonium chloride (0.1% w/w), chlorhexidine dihydrochloride (0.1% w/w), liquid paraffin (10% w/w) and isopropyl myristate (10% w/w).

The other ingredients are cetostearyl alcohol, glycerol, macrogol cetostearyl ether (cetomacrogol 1000), phenoxyethanol, disodium phosphate dodecahydrate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate and purified water.

What is AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream

Our AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream has been specially formulated with active colloidal oatmeal and apricot oils to help soothe, moisturise and protect your dry skin and skin suffering from Eczema or Psoriasis. Suitable for daily use, this paraffin-free cream is the perfect moisturiser and soap substitute to add to your skincare routine if you’re looking for something which will leave your skin looking healthy and hydrated but not greasy before you head out to start your day. SLS, parabens and fragrances can irritate and aggravate sensitive skin, so we’ve made sure to keep them out of all our products meaning they are safe and gentle enough to use on everyone in your family from birth upwards.

How to use AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream

    • Wash hands before applying.
    • Break the tamper-evident seal on the pump and turn the nozzle clockwise to open.
    • Press the pump ten times on your first use to release cream onto your hand.
    • Apply AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream regularly, liberally and frequently using gentle strokes and following the direction of hair growth to keep your skin soft and moisturised
    • Do not rub, as this can cause irritation and itching and may block hair follicles, causing inflammation (folliculitis).
    • For maximum effectiveness, leave a thin layer of cream on the skin to soak in.
    • How often you apply, AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream will depend on how dry your skin is.
    • AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream can be used instead of soap (soap substitute). Apply to your skin whilst showering to clean and moisturise simultaneously.
    • Re-apply after showering to skin that is almost dry to lock in moisture.
    • If you have eczema or psoriasis, continue using AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream even after the skin has improved to reduce the risk of flare-ups.
    • Safe to use during pregnancy or breastfeeding as AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream is unlikely to have any ill effects when used as directed; however, if you are unsure, feel free to talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
    • If you are accidentally swallowed, immediately see a doctor for external use, taking the pack with you.

There are two types of active ingredients in this product:

Benzalkonium chloride and chlorhexidine dihydrochloride are antimicrobials that help to:

      What is Dermol Wash

Dermol Wash is a moisturising, protective and antiseptic soap substitute for you to use whenever you wash. It has been developed for use instead of soaps (bars and liquids) and cleansers, both of which may irritate dry skin.

Dermol Wash can also be used as a leave-on treatment, re-applied after washing and drying.

It helps treat and prevent dry and itchy skin conditions. Common examples include:

      • occupational hand dermatitis (due to frequent hand-washing, or repeated contact with water or chemicals such as cleaning or hair products)
      • eczema and other types of dermatitis
      • psoriasis (scaly, pink patches of skin)
      • elderly pruritus (itchy skin due to ageing)
      • ichthyosis (unusually scaly skin)

All age groups can use Dermol Wash, including babies.

The active ingredients in this product are isopropyl myristate and liquid paraffin (which are emollients), and benzalkonium chloride and chlorhexidine dihydrochloride (which are antimicrobials).

This soap substitute is specially designed to be non-foaming and is fragrance-free. When used as part of your normal washing routine, it helps to:

      • cleanse, soften, moisturise and protect your skin by trapping in moisture and restoring the normal protective function of the skin
      • prevent the skin-drying and irritant effects that can be caused by washing and by the soaps, foaming additives and fragrances used in ordinary cleansing products
      • combat bacteria present on your skin that can make eczema worse
      • prevent infection caused by scratching itchy skin
      • prevent ‘flare-ups’ of your skin condition

This product can be used in addition to any other emollients or treatments your doctor, pharmacist or nurse may have given or prescribed for you to treat your dry skin condition.

      How to use Dermol Wash

This product is only for application to the skin. Use this product as part of your normal washing routine, instead of your ordinary soap (bar or liquid) or cleanser. For maximum benefit, you should use it whenever you wash (including routine handwashing).

Before using this product, turn the top of the pump dispenser anti-clockwise to unlock it. After unlocking, you will need to press down the pump dispenser several times to prime the pump before any product is dispensed.

      • Wash with this product in the same way as you would with any liquid soap.
      • Use it with a gentle washing action. The product will not foam or lather as you wash.
      • Rinse off (you should still be able to feel the product coating the skin).
      • Pat the skin dry with a soft towel (avoid rubbing as this can make dry skin conditions worse). You can also use Dermol Wash as a leave-on treatment, by re-applying it after washing and drying.
      • Gently smooth the product into the dry skin areas. If necessary, allow time for any excess to soak in. Do not rub the skin vigorously.
      • If you are applying another product to the same areas of skin as Dermol Wash, try to avoid mixing the two products. You can do this by applying the treatments alternately, leaving enough time to allow the previous product to soak in.
      • Dermol Wash can be used for intensive and frequent hand-washing (e.g. for healthcare professionals in a clinical setting).
      • Using Dermol Wash, follow the hand-washing technique normally recommended.
      • Rinse thoroughly and dry.
      • Apply Dermol Wash to hands as a leave-on skin conditioner.

If you forget to use Dermol Wash

Do not worry if you occasionally forget to use it, just carry on using the product as described the next time you wash.

If the product gets into the eyes

The product may cause irritation if it gets into the eyes. Rinse the eyes with plenty of water.

If rinsing one eye, take care to avoid washing the product into the other eye. If irritation persists, seek medical advice.
