Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream - 15g
Fungal InfectionsIn stockMore InformationWhat is Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream?
Canesten Hydrocortisone is used to treat athlete’s foot and fungal sweat rash when there are additional symptoms of inflammation (such as swelling, redness and itching).
Canesten Hydrocortisone treats the fungal skin infection and reduces the swelling and itching caused by it.
The active substances in Canesten Hydrocortisone are clotrimazole and hydrocortisone acetate. Clotrimazole belongs to a group of medicines called imidazoles, which destroy the fungi and some bacteria that cause skin infections. Hydrocortisone acetate is a mild steroid which reduces swelling, redness and itching associated with inflammation of the skin.
What are fungal infections?
Fungal infections are very common and affect many people. Two of the most common fungal skin infections include athlete’s foot and sweat rash.
There are two main types of fungal infection:
- The tinea group, also known as dermatophytes.
- The candida group, also known as yeasts.
The tinea group includes athlete’s foot which is easily spread by contact. The fungus that causes athlete’s foot usually lives harmlessly on our skin and in our environment. The natural balance that normally keeps it under control can be upset by factors such as damp, moist conditions. This could happen, for example, through regularly wearing training shoes that keep the feet hot and sweaty. Since this fungus is contagious, it can also often be picked up in changing rooms. The main symptom is an itchy, scaly and irritating rash.
The candida group can be responsible for conditions such as sweat rash. Sweat rash can appear anywhere on the body but is more likely to occur where folds of skin rub against each other, such as: under the breasts, under arms, around the groin and on the back. Candida is a yeast-like fungus that usually lives harmlessly on our skin. However, the natural balance that normally keeps it under control can be upset by factors such as sweating, tight or synthetic clothing and cosmetic preparations such as bath additives. When levels of the yeast increase, the skin can develop the following symptoms: persistent burning and itching, soreness and a variety of patches or blemishes as well as a softened and soggy appearance.
How to use Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream
- Before use, pierce the tube seal by inverting the cap over the end of the tube and press.
- If the feet are infected, they should be washed and dried thoroughly, especially between the toes, before applying the cream.
- Canesten Hydrocortisone should be applied thinly and evenly to the affected areas twice daily and rubbed in gently. Approximately 1cm of cream per application should be enough.
- Do not cover the area being treated with a dressing or bandage.
- As with all products containing hydrocortisone, you should wash your hands immediately after applying the cream.
The symptoms of a skin infection, such as itching or soreness should improve within a few days of treatment although signs such as redness and scaling may take longer to disappear. If the symptoms persist or do not start to improve after seven days, consult your doctor.
You can help the treatment to work if you follow these simple self-help tips:
- Although the infected area will itch, try not to scratch. Scratching will damage the surface of the skin and cause the infection to spread further.
- Keep the affected skin areas clean.
- Pay particular attention to drying the skin, but avoid excessive rubbing.
- Do not share towels, bath mats, etc. with other people as you could spread the infection to them.
- Always wash your hands after treating the infection to prevent it from spreading.
If you have athlete’s foot:
- Remember to dry the skin between the toes thoroughly.
- Wash your socks, stockings and tights thoroughly in hot water to remove any shed skin or fungal spores.
- Change your footwear daily if possible.
What does Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream contain?
The active substances are clotrimazole and hydrocortisone acetate. Each gram of cream contains 10mg clotrimazole and 11.2mg hydrocortisone acetate (equivalent to 10mg hydrocortisone).

Eczema, Psoriasis & DermatitisIn stockGet started£7.69What is Eumovate Eczema and Dermatitis Cream 0.05%?
Eumovate is used for the short-term treatment and control of patches of red, itchy skin caused by eczema and dermatitis. The cream stops the skin’s over-reaction to the triggers that cause skin flare-ups, such as eczema or dermatitis. The active ingredient is clobetasone butyrate, a topical corticosteroid to control skin inflammation. The cream base also has moisturising properties.
When can I use Eumovate Cream?
Eumovate cream contains a steroid that reduces inflammation and flare-ups of psoriasis or eczema, often associated with swelling, itching, redness and irritation.
What is eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis?
Eczema is a dry skin condition which makes skin feel itchy, dry and irritated. Dermatitis is a sort of inflammation triggered when the skin comes in contact with something irritable, like harsh additives or disinfectants. Psoriasis is characterised by flaky, red skin patches covered in silver scales, which may be sore and itchy. Flare-ups of eczema and psoriasis may involve:
- Dry skin
- Redness
- Itching
- Blisters
- Cracked skin
- Inflammation
Managing eczema and dermatitis
Skin specialist advice - Skin specialists often advise people with eczema or dermatitis to use emollient (moisturising) skin products, including creams and bath oils, to keep moisture in the skin. This can make your skin more resistant to flare-ups. Avoid using soap and heavily scented products.
If a rash comes back - Sometimes people with dermatitis find their rash soon comes back after treatment or never disappears completely. This is often because they are still in contact with their trigger, i.e. what causes the reaction.
Common triggers of eczema and dermatitis include:
- Jewellery, including earrings or studs (especially gold-plated earrings)
- Coins
- Watch buckles, metal straps or the metal back of a watch
- Metal studs or fastenings on jeans, bras or underwear.
All of these have a metal in them called nickel, which is a very common trigger. If you react badly to nickel, all of the triggers in the list could be a problem. So, if you’ve reacted badly to one of the common triggers, you’ll need to watch out for the other common triggers.
Other common triggers of eczema and dermatitis include:
- In the home: such as plasters, furniture polish, varnishes, rubber gloves or elastic in clothes
- In substances you use at work, such as glues, oils, lubricants or cement
- In the garden: certain plants and weeds, gardening gloves.
How to use Eumovate Cream
- Adults and children 12 years and over: Use the cream once or twice daily for up to 7 days.
- Wash and dry your hands.
- Squeeze out the correct amount of cream onto your index finger.
- Half a fingertip will cover a patch of skin the same size as the palm of your hand.
- Gently rub cream into the skin you are treating once or twice a day.
- Wash your hands again (unless it is your hands you are treating).
How much Eumovate Cream to use
- Squeeze out the cream along the top of your index finger
- Squeeze the cream halfway to your fingertip from the crease in your finger. This will cover a patch of skin the same size as the palm of your hand.
- Use the fingertip unit as a guide. For smaller areas, use a smaller amount. This cream is not meant to treat large areas.
- If you use too much of the cream by mistake, don’t worry – but try to keep to the fingertip unit.
- Half a fingertip will cover a patch of skin the same size as the palm of your hand.
Important information about Eumovate
Eumovate contains a moderate steroid and should only be used for short-term use (maximum one week). Thin layers of Eumovate must be applied, as steroids thin the skin. Eumovate cannot be applied to infected, oozing skin or open wounds. If the condition does not improve or worsens after using Eumovate, then treatment should be discontinued, and you should consult your doctor. Eumovate must not be applied to the genital or facial regions.

Fungal InfectionsIn stockMore InformationCanesten Thrush External Cream 2% w/w Cream Clotrimazole – 20g
Fungal InfectionsIn stockGet started£6.94What is Canesten Thrush External Cream
Canesten Thrush External Cream relieves irritation of the vulva (vulvitis) which is caused by vaginal thrush (candidiasis).
Although this cream provides relief from the external irritation caused by vaginal thrush, it cannot treat any internal (vaginal) cause of the infection. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to recommend a treatment for this.
Only use this product if you have been previously diagnosed by your doctor as having vaginal thrush.
Some women suffer from recurrent attacks of thrush. To reduce the frequency of these attacks, the sexual partner’s penis can be treated with this cream to prevent re-infection, even if they have no symptoms of thrush.
The active substance in Canesten Thrush External Cream is clotrimazole. Clotrimazole belongs to a group of medicines called azoles and is an antifungal agent which fights the cause of infections such as vaginal thrush.
Information about vaginal thrush
Vaginal thrush (candidiasis) is a common infection that most women suffer from at some time in their lives and is not caused by lack of personal hygiene.
Thrush is caused by a yeast (fungus) called Candida which lives harmlessly in the vagina and other parts of the body, without you even noticing it. However, the natural balance that keeps Candida under control can be upset by many factors such as hormonal changes (menstruation, contraceptive pill, pregnancy, menopause), poor health, antibiotics, perfumed soaps, bath additives and tight clothing.
If the natural pH balance is altered, the level of yeast increases and can develop into a thrush infection-causing any of the following symptoms: persistent burning and/or itching around the vagina and vulva, redness, swelling and soreness of the tissues of the vagina and vulva and a whitish, odourless discharge from the vagina. Not everybody who has thrush has all these symptoms; you may have only one of them.
How to avoid future recurrences of thrush
✓ Wear cotton knickers and loose clothing.
✓ Wash daily.
✓ After going to the toilet, wipe yourself from the front to back as a thrush infection may be transferred from the bowel.
✓ Change your sanitary protection regularly.
✗ Try to avoid wearing tights, nylon knickers and close-fitting jeans.
✗ Try to avoid washing with perfumed soaps or using vaginal deodorants.
✗ Do not wash or rub yourself hard with sponges or flannels and avoid hot baths with strong perfumed oils
If you are still worried or have any questions about the symptoms or the treatment of thrush, do not hesitate to ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Dulcolax Twelve Plus Suppositories are used for the short-term relief of occasional constipation. Dulcolax Twelve Plus Suppositories contain bisacodyl which belongs to a group of medicines known as stimulant laxatives, which increase bowel movements. This medicine does not help with weight loss.
What is constipation?
Normal and regular bowel movement is important for most people. However, what is “normal and regular” varies from person to person. Some may have a bowel movement every day, others less often. Whatever it is like for you, it is best that your bowel movement has a regular pattern.
- Constipation is an occasional problem for some people; for others, it may happen more often
- It happens when the normal muscle actions in the bowel (large intestine) slow down. This can mean that the material is not easily eliminated from the body
The cause of constipation is often not known. It can be associated with:
- A sudden change in diet
- A diet with not enough fibre
- Not drinking enough fluids
- Loss of ‘tone’ of the bowel muscles in older people
- Pregnancy
- Medicines such as morphine or codeine
- Having to stay in bed for a long time
- Lack of exercise

If this medicine is from your doctor or pharmacist, do exactly as they have told you. Otherwise, follow the instructions below. If you do not understand the instructions, or if you are not sure, ask your pharmacist or doctor
As with all laxatives, Dulcolax Twelve Plus Suppositories should not be used every day for more than 5 days. If you need laxatives every day, or if you have abdominal pain which does not go away, you should see your doctor
How to use the suppositories
The suppositories should only be used in your back passage.
- Take off the foil wrapping
- Lie on one side and pull your knees up towards your chest. Keep one leg drawn up more than the other
- Use your first finger (index finger) or middle finger to push in the suppository
- Gently push the suppository as far as possible into your back passage, pointed end first
- Once it is as far as it will go, push it side-ways to make sure it touches the wall of the bowel
- Lower your legs to a comfortable position whilst the suppository is retained in place
- Keep the suppository inside you for at least 30 minutes
If you feel the suppository might come out straight away:
- You may not have put it in high enough. Push it in as far as possible
- Try to keep it in for 30 minutes, even if you feel like you urgently need to go to the toilet. This is how long it takes to work
How much to use
Adults and children 12 years and over: Put one 10 mg suppository into the back passage for an immediate effect (they usually have a laxative effect within 10 to 30 minutes). Only use one suppository per day. This should not be used in children or adolescents under the age of 12 years

Skin CareIn stockMore InformationWhat is Dermol Cream
Dermol Cream is an antimicrobial and emollient (softening and moisturising) treatment for application to dry or problem skin.
It is for use in two ways:
- as a leave-on application
- as a soap substitute.
It helps treat and prevent dry and itchy (pruritic) skin conditions, especially eczema and dermatitis.
All age groups can use Dermol Cream, including babies.
There are two types of active ingredients in this product:
Benzalkonium chloride and chlorhexidine dihydrochloride are antimicrobials that help to:
- combat bacteria present on your skin that can make eczema worse
- prevent infection caused by scratching itchy skin.
Liquid paraffin and isopropyl myristate are emollients that help to:
- soften, moisturise and protect your skin by trapping moisture in the skin and restoring the normal protective function of the skin
- prevent the skin-drying and irritant effects that can be caused by washing and bathing and by the soaps, foaming additives and fragrances used in ordinary skin cleansing products.
This product can be used in addition to any other emollients or treatments your doctor or pharmacist may have given or prescribed for you to treat your dry skin condition.

Dermacool 1% Menthol Aqueous Cream Tub - 500g
Skin CareIn stockMore InformationWhat is Dermacool 1% Menthol Aqueous Cream
Dermacool 1% Menthol Aqueous Cream is a skin treatment that relieves many skin conditions, such as eczema, dermatitis, insect bites, and psoriasis. It can also be used for prickly heat and sunburn. The Cream contains menthol, which helps to cool and soothe the skin, and it also restores the moisture that has been lost in the skin.
The menthol in Aqueous Cream can also be used on dry, itchy, irritated skin. The menthol in Aqueous Cream can be used continually alongside other medications and is sodium lauryl sulfate free. The menthol within Dermacool triggers the cold receptors in the skin to provide a cooling and soothing relief. It also works to restore natural moisture levels in the skin to prevent it from becoming dehydrated and dry.
What is dry skin
Dry skin is a prevalent condition that can appear at any age. It usually doesn’t present a serious problem but can often be associated with other medical conditions such as eczema, contact dermatitis, and psoriasis.
What causes dry skin
The skin comprises many layers and forms a natural barrier to protect our body from the outside environment. To help protect the outer layer of the skin from losing water, the skin produces an oily substance called sebum. If the skin doesn’t have enough sebum, it loses moisture and feels dry.
Common causes of dry skin:
- Excessive bathing or showering, scrubbing of the skin while washing, or harsh soaps that dissolve the protective layer of sebum.
- Environmental conditions that increase water loss, such as very hot, dry weather or central heating. Frequent exposure to wind and sun can evaporate water from the skin, making the surface feel itchy and dry.
- Decreased production of sebum, and this is often a factor in the elderly.
What is itchy skin
Itchy skin is not usually a sign of anything serious, and you can often treat it yourself, which will usually go away after a few weeks. Sometimes the itching is caused by dry skin, cracked or irritated skin, Eczema and Psoriasis. You can do simple things to help ease the itching, which may also help stop itchy skin from returning and avoid skin damage from scratching.
DO:
- Pat or tap your skin instead of scratching it
- Hold something cool on your skin, like a damp towel
- Have cool or warm baths or showers
- Use an unperfumed moisturiser or emollient regularly
- Keep your nails clean, short and smooth
- Wear loose cotton clothing
- Use a laundry liquid or powder that’s for sensitive skin
DON’T:
- Do not wear tight clothes or clothes made from wool or synthetic fabrics
- Do not spend a long time in the bath or shower
- Do not use scented soaps, deodorants, or moisturisers
- Itchy skin has many possible causes. If you have other symptoms (such as a rash or swelling), this might help to find the cause
