What is Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream?
Canesten Hydrocortisone is used to treat athlete’s foot and fungal sweat rash when there are additional symptoms of inflammation (such as swelling, redness and itching).
Canesten Hydrocortisone treats the fungal skin infection and reduces the swelling and itching caused by it.
The active substances in Canesten Hydrocortisone are clotrimazole and hydrocortisone acetate. Clotrimazole belongs to a group of medicines called imidazoles, which destroy the fungi and some bacteria that cause skin infections. Hydrocortisone acetate is a mild steroid which reduces swelling, redness and itching associated with inflammation of the skin.
What are fungal infections?
Fungal infections are very common and affect many people. Two of the most common fungal skin infections include athlete’s foot and sweat rash.
There are two main types of fungal infection:
- The tinea group, also known as dermatophytes.
- The candida group, also known as yeasts.
The tinea group includes athlete’s foot which is easily spread by contact. The fungus that causes athlete’s foot usually lives harmlessly on our skin and in our environment. The natural balance that normally keeps it under control can be upset by factors such as damp, moist conditions. This could happen, for example, through regularly wearing training shoes that keep the feet hot and sweaty. Since this fungus is contagious, it can also often be picked up in changing rooms. The main symptom is an itchy, scaly and irritating rash.
The candida group can be responsible for conditions such as sweat rash. Sweat rash can appear anywhere on the body but is more likely to occur where folds of skin rub against each other, such as: under the breasts, under arms, around the groin and on the back. Candida is a yeast-like fungus that usually lives harmlessly on our skin. However, the natural balance that normally keeps it under control can be upset by factors such as sweating, tight or synthetic clothing and cosmetic preparations such as bath additives. When levels of the yeast increase, the skin can develop the following symptoms: persistent burning and itching, soreness and a variety of patches or blemishes as well as a softened and soggy appearance.
How to use Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream
- Before use, pierce the tube seal by inverting the cap over the end of the tube and press.
- If the feet are infected, they should be washed and dried thoroughly, especially between the toes, before applying the cream.
- Canesten Hydrocortisone should be applied thinly and evenly to the affected areas twice daily and rubbed in gently. Approximately 1cm of cream per application should be enough.
- Do not cover the area being treated with a dressing or bandage.
- As with all products containing hydrocortisone, you should wash your hands immediately after applying the cream.
The symptoms of a skin infection, such as itching or soreness should improve within a few days of treatment although signs such as redness and scaling may take longer to disappear. If the symptoms persist or do not start to improve after seven days, consult your doctor.
You can help the treatment to work if you follow these simple self-help tips:
- Although the infected area will itch, try not to scratch. Scratching will damage the surface of the skin and cause the infection to spread further.
- Keep the affected skin areas clean.
- Pay particular attention to drying the skin, but avoid excessive rubbing.
- Do not share towels, bath mats, etc. with other people as you could spread the infection to them.
- Always wash your hands after treating the infection to prevent it from spreading.
If you have athlete’s foot:
- Remember to dry the skin between the toes thoroughly.
- Wash your socks, stockings and tights thoroughly in hot water to remove any shed skin or fungal spores.
- Change your footwear daily if possible.
What does Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream contain?
The active substances are clotrimazole and hydrocortisone acetate. Each gram of cream contains 10mg clotrimazole and 11.2mg hydrocortisone acetate (equivalent to 10mg hydrocortisone).

Eczema, Psoriasis & DermatitisIn stockGet started£7.69What is Eumovate Eczema and Dermatitis Cream 0.05%?
Eumovate is used for the short-term treatment and control of patches of red, itchy skin caused by eczema and dermatitis. The cream stops the skin’s over-reaction to the triggers that cause skin flare-ups, such as eczema or dermatitis. The active ingredient is clobetasone butyrate, a topical corticosteroid to control skin inflammation. The cream base also has moisturising properties.
When can I use Eumovate Cream?
Eumovate cream contains a steroid that reduces inflammation and flare-ups of psoriasis or eczema, often associated with swelling, itching, redness and irritation.
What is eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis?
Eczema is a dry skin condition which makes skin feel itchy, dry and irritated. Dermatitis is a sort of inflammation triggered when the skin comes in contact with something irritable, like harsh additives or disinfectants. Psoriasis is characterised by flaky, red skin patches covered in silver scales, which may be sore and itchy. Flare-ups of eczema and psoriasis may involve:
- Dry skin
- Redness
- Itching
- Blisters
- Cracked skin
- Inflammation
Managing eczema and dermatitis
Skin specialist advice - Skin specialists often advise people with eczema or dermatitis to use emollient (moisturising) skin products, including creams and bath oils, to keep moisture in the skin. This can make your skin more resistant to flare-ups. Avoid using soap and heavily scented products.
If a rash comes back - Sometimes people with dermatitis find their rash soon comes back after treatment or never disappears completely. This is often because they are still in contact with their trigger, i.e. what causes the reaction.
Common triggers of eczema and dermatitis include:
- Jewellery, including earrings or studs (especially gold-plated earrings)
- Coins
- Watch buckles, metal straps or the metal back of a watch
- Metal studs or fastenings on jeans, bras or underwear.
All of these have a metal in them called nickel, which is a very common trigger. If you react badly to nickel, all of the triggers in the list could be a problem. So, if you’ve reacted badly to one of the common triggers, you’ll need to watch out for the other common triggers.
Other common triggers of eczema and dermatitis include:
- In the home: such as plasters, furniture polish, varnishes, rubber gloves or elastic in clothes
- In substances you use at work, such as glues, oils, lubricants or cement
- In the garden: certain plants and weeds, gardening gloves.

Important information about Eumovate
Eumovate contains a moderate steroid and should only be used for short-term use (maximum one week). Thin layers of Eumovate must be applied, as steroids thin the skin. Amorolfine 5% w/v is used to treat:
- Fungal infections of the nails without the involvement of the nail root (nail matrix)
- Fungal infections affecting up to 2 nails and affecting the upper half or sides of the nail (as shown in the first picture below). If the infection appears to be more like pictures 2 or 3; you should consult your doctor.
- The active substance in Amorolfine 5% w/v is amorolfine (as the hydrochloride) which belongs to a group of medicines known as antifungals.
- Amorolfine 5% w/v kills a wide variety of fungi that can cause nail infections. Fungal nail infection is likely to result in discoloured (white, yellow, or brown), thick or brittle nails, although their appearance can vary considerably.
How to use Amorolfine 5% Nail Lacquer
Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, Amorolfine 5% w/v is used as follows:
- Treat your infected nails as described below. NAILS SHOULD BE TREATED ONCE A WEEK.
- Once weekly application should continue for six months for fingernails and 9 to 12 months for toenails.
- Nails grow slowly so it may take 2 or 3 months before you start to see an improvement.
- It is vital to carry on using the nail lacquer until the infection has cleared and healthy nails have grown back.
- The following steps should be followed carefully for each affected nail:
Step 1: File the nail
Using a new file, gently file down the infected areas of nail, including the nail surface. Protect any healthy nails while you are doing this so that you don't spread the infection.
CAUTION: Do not use the same nail file used for infected nails and healthy nails, as this could spread the infection as well.
To prevent the spread of infection, take care that no one else uses the files from your kit.
Step 2: Clean the nail
Use one of the swabs provided (or nail varnish remover) to clean the nail surface. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for each affected nail.
Step 3: Apply the lacquer
Dip one of the re-usable applicators into the bottle of nail lacquer. The lacquer must not be wiped off the edge of the bottle before it is applied. Apply the lacquer evenly over the entire surface of the nail. Repeat this step for each affected nail.
Let the treated nail(s) dry for approximately 10 minutes.
Step 4: Clean the applicator
The applicators provided are re-usable. However, it is essential to clean them thoroughly after completing each treatment procedure, using the same swab you used for nail cleansing. Avoid touching newly treated nails with the swab. Close the nail lacquer bottle tightly. Dispose of the swab carefully as it is inflammable.
What does Amorolfine 5% w/v contain?
Amorolfine 5% w/v contains 50 mg/ml of the active substance amorolfine (equivalent to 55.74 mg/ml amorolfine hydrochloride).

Information about vaginal thrush
Vaginal thrush (candidiasis) is a common infection that most women suffer from at some time in their lives and is not caused by lack of personal hygiene.
Thrush is caused by a yeast (fungus) called Candida which lives harmlessly in the vagina and other parts of the body, without you even noticing it. However, the natural balance that keeps Candida under control can be upset by many factors such as hormonal changes (menstruation, contraceptive pill, pregnancy, menopause), poor health, antibiotics, perfumed soaps, bath additives and tight clothing.
If the natural pH balance is altered, the level of yeast increases and can develop into a thrush infection-causing any of the following symptoms: persistent burning and/or itching around the vagina and vulva, redness, swelling and soreness of the tissues of the vagina and vulva and a whitish, odourless discharge from the vagina. Not everybody who has thrush has all these symptoms; you may have only one of them.
How to avoid future recurrences of thrush
✓ Wear cotton knickers and loose clothing.
✓ Wash daily.
✓ After going to the toilet, wipe yourself from the front to back as a thrush infection may be transferred from the bowel.
✓ Change your sanitary protection regularly.
✗ Try to avoid wearing tights, nylon knickers and close-fitting jeans.
✗ Try to avoid washing with perfumed soaps or using vaginal deodorants.
✗ Do not wash or rub yourself hard with sponges or flannels and avoid hot baths with strong perfumed oils
If you are still worried or have any questions about the symptoms or the treatment of thrush, do not hesitate to ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Lamisil AT 1% Cream - 15g
Foot CareIn stockMore InformationWhat is Lamisil AT 1% Cream?
Lamisil AT 1% Cream contains the active ingredient terbinafine hydrochloride which is an antifungal used to treat fungal skin infection, such as:
- Athlete’s foot (tinea pedis) – Athlete’s foot appears only on the feet (usually both, but not always), usually in between the toes. It can also appear on the instep, soles, or other areas of the feet. The most common type of athlete’s foot causes cracking or scaling of the skin, but you may also have mild swelling, blisters, or weeping ulcers. Lamisil AT 1% Cream is recommended for athlete’s foot when it occurs between the toes. If you have a fungal nail infection (fungus inside and under the nail) with discolouration of the nails and changes in nail texture (thick or flaky), you should consult your doctor because Lamisil AT 1% Cream is not appropriate for this type of infection.
- Dhobie itch/jock itch (tinea cruris) – Dhobie itch appears in the groin and inner thigh area, usually on both sides but often with one side more than the other, where it can spread further between the legs to the buttocks, or up towards the stomach. Dhobie itch looks like a clearly bordered rash, which may have blisters.
How to use Lamisil AT 1% Cream
Adults: For Athlete’s Foot and dhobie itch, apply the cream once a day, for one week.
- Cleanse and dry the affected areas thoroughly and wash your hands. Treatment can be helped by keeping the affected areas clean by regular washing and careful drying with your own clean towels and clothes, and not rubbing or scratching the skin.
- Unscrew the cap then gently squeeze out a small amount of the cream onto your finger.
- Apply just enough cream to form a thin layer on the affected skin and surrounding areas.
- Rub in gently. When used between the toes, buttocks or on the groin, the treated area may be covered with a light, fresh gauze strip, especially at night.
- Replace the cap on the tube and wash your hands
Even though you will not be using Lamisil AT 1% Cream during the second week, full skin healing after the infection has cleared will continue for up to 4 weeks. If you have not noticed any signs of improvement within 2 weeks of first starting treatment, please seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist.

Canestest Self-Test for Vaginal Infections
Fungal InfectionsIn stockMore InformationWhat is Canestest Self-Test for Vaginal Infections?
Canestest is a convenient self-test that helps you to find out whether you’re likely to suffer from thrush or BV and also helps you to find the right treatment for you. This innovation allows you to regain control of your intimate health – it’s over 90% accurate, and it only takes seconds to receive your swab results. The test itself is a simple, easy to use swab to indicate if your vaginal pH level is abnormal. The test results should be interpreted in conjunction with your symptoms, based on the symptoms table on the back of the pack, helping you to understand which common vaginal infection you may be suffering from, such as thrush or bacterial vaginosis.
If you’re unsure if you have bacterial vaginosis or thrush, we’ll help you to take control. We’ve developed an innovative and reliable self-test to help you quickly determine which common vaginal infection (bacterial vaginosis or thrush) you could be suffering from and enable you to treat it quickly and effectively.
Canestest links vaginal pH and symptoms to a probable condition: first, the easy-to-use swab helps you to find out whether or not your vaginal pH level is abnormally increased. Then, this result should be interpreted in conjunction with the symptoms table on the pack, helping you to find the right treatment.
Canestest: Confidence to choose the right treatment for you
Dealing with vaginal infections can make you feel less confident and less in control of your body, not to mention very uncomfortable. Canestest allows you independently diagnose yourself in the comfort of your home, quickly giving you results that are over 90% accurate. It’s an innovative solution that will put you back in control of your intimate health and give you the ability to choose the treatment you need to effectively deal with your infection.
Thrush vs Bacterial Vaginosis
While both thrush and bacterial vaginosis (BV) are very common, they’re two different types of infections, and you need to treat them differently. However, they are not always known and not always easy to identify. Thrush is caused by an overgrowth of the yeast (Candida albicans) which often leads to symptoms such as itchiness, soreness or white discharge. BV is caused by an overgrowth of bacteria regularly found in your vagina. BV symptoms usually include a fishy odour and a greyish-white, watery discharge. With Canestest, you can test before you treat, so you know you’re using the right treatment for your infection.
How does Canestest work?
Your vagina normally has an acidic pH level – this keeps the good and bad bacteria that live in your healthy vagina in check. Any changes to your vaginal pH balance can cause and can also be an indication of vaginal infections such as BV. Canestest tells you if you have a relevant pH shift in your vagina and helps you to understand and diagnose the type of vaginal condition you’re likely to suffer from. A higher vaginal pH indicates that you may be suffering from BV while a healthy vaginal pH means your symptoms are probably caused by thrush. Canestest has been proven to help detect changes in vaginal pH with more than 90% accuracy.
How to use Canestest Self-Test for Vaginal Infections
It’s easy and straightforward to use Canestest at home. It’s similar to inserting a tampon, and it shouldn’t cause you any discomfort. To get the most accurate results, you need to make sure you don’t use Canestest less than one day before or after your period or if you have any signs of your period or vaginal bleeding. You also need to allow 12 hours after having sexual intercourse or vaginal douching.
Step 1 - Unwrap the Canestest swab (make sure the swab tip does not come into contact with anything before you insert it into your vagina)
Step 2 - Hold the Canestest swab by the handle and insert the yellow tip into your vagina, rotate the swab and then remove
Step 3 - After 10 seconds check the tip of the Canestest swab to see if the colour has stayed the same or changed to blue or green
How to interpret the Test results?
If your Canestest swab didn’t change colour after 10 seconds, it means that you may be suffering from thrush. If you have symptoms such as an itchy or sore vagina, or thick, white discharge, this is likely the case. If the tip of the swab did not change colour after 10 seconds and you do not have the symptoms of vaginal thrush indicated in the symptoms table, then it is likely that you do not suffer from these common vaginal infections.
If your Canestest swab changed colour and the tip becomes blue or green, it means that you may have a BV infection. BV infections are usually accompanied by symptoms such as a thin, grey discharge and an unpleasant fishy smell. However, in the case of yellow-green, frothy discharge associated with bad odour and painful urination, you may be suffering from trichomoniasis. In this case, you should consult your doctor.

Canesten Cream treats fungal skin infections such as ringworm, athlete’s foot, fungal nappy rash and fungal sweat rash. It is also used to relieve irritation of the vulva (external thrush) or the end of the penis, which may be associated with thrush.
The active substance in Canesten Cream is clotrimazole. Clotrimazole belongs to a group of medicines called imidazoles and is an antifungal agent which fights the cause of fungal skin infections.
What are fungal infections?
Fungal infections are very common and affect many people. Some common fungal skin infections include athlete’s foot, nappy rash, sweat rash and ringworm.
There are two main types of fungal infection:
- The tinea group is also known as dermatophytes.
- The candida group, also known as yeasts.
The tinea group includes athlete’s foot and ringworm, easily spread by contact. The fungus that causes athlete’s foot usually lives harmlessly on our skin and environment. Damp, moist conditions can upset the natural balance that normally controls it. This could happen, for example, through regularly wearing training shoes that keep the feet hot and sweaty. Since this fungus is contagious, it can often be picked up in changing rooms. Ringworm is usually passed on from animals to children. Ringworm is not a worm; its name comes from the circular worm-like shape that it forms on the skin. The main symptom for both is an itchy, scaly and irritating rash.
The candida group can be responsible for conditions such as sweat rash and thrush. Sweat rash can appear anywhere on the body but is more likely to occur where folds of skin rub against each other, such as: under the breasts, under arms, around the groin and on the back. Candida is a yeast-like fungus that usually lives harmlessly on our skin. However, the natural balance that normally controls it can be upset by factors such as sweating, tight or synthetic clothing and cosmetic preparations such as bath additives. When levels of the yeast increase, the skin can develop the following symptoms: persistent burning and itching, soreness and a variety of patches or blemishes, as well as a softened and soggy appearance.
The candida group can also be responsible for nappy rash. Most babies develop nappy rash at some stage. Although this is rarely a serious condition, the rash can be extremely distressing for both you and your baby. Nappy rash which lasts longer than three days may be fungal in origin and will require an antifungal treatment. The symptoms of fungal nappy rash include red patches on the baby’s bottom and genitals, burning and itching.
How to use Canesten Clotrimazole Cream
- Before use, pierce the tube seal by inverting the cap over the end of the tube and press.
- If the feet are infected, they should be washed and dried thoroughly, especially between the toes, before applying the cream.
- Canesten Cream should be applied thinly and evenly to the affected areas two or three times daily and rubbed in gently.
- A strip of cream (1/2 cm long) is enough to treat an area of about the size of the hand.
- The duration of the treatment depends upon the type of infection. Generally, a minimum of two weeks is required, although up to four weeks may be necessary
The symptoms of a skin infection, such as itching or soreness, should improve within a few days of treatment although signs such as redness and scaling may take longer to disappear. If symptoms persist, consult your doctor.
