What are Gina Vaginal Tablets?

Gina is a vaginal tablet and contains estradiol.

• Estradiol is a female sex hormone.
• It belongs to a group of hormones called oestrogens.
• It is precisely the same as the estradiol produced by women's ovaries.

Gina belongs to a group of medicines called local vaginal Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). It relieves menopausal symptoms in the vagina, such as dryness or irritation. In medical terms, this is known as 'vaginal atrophy. This happens when the vaginal wall becomes thinner, drier and less elastic and can cause symptoms in the vagina such as dryness, soreness or irritation, itching or burning sensation, and painful sexual intercourse. It is caused by a drop in oestrogen levels in your body which happens naturally after menopause. 

How to use Gina Vaginal Tablets 

• Before you use Gina, your pharmacist will ask about your and your family's medical history. They may also ask you about your menopause and what symptoms you have had. This is to make sure that Gina is suitable for you.
• Once you have started using Gina, you should review your treatment regularly with your pharmacist. Let your doctor know you are using Gina at your next routine appointment.
• Do not give this medicine to children or adolescents. This medicine is only intended for use in postmenopausal women.
• Always use this medicine as described in this leaflet or as your pharmacist has told you. Check with your pharmacist if you are not sure.
• Gina is a tablet for vaginal use only, and each vaginal tablet comes preloaded in a single-use applicator. 
•  Initial dose: Use one vaginal tablet each day for the first two weeks of treatment
• Maintenance Dose: Use one vaginal tablet twice a week. Leave 3 or 4 days between each dose.
• You can use it at any time of the day, but you should try using it simultaneously for each application.
  

What do Gina Vaginal Tablets contain

The active substance is estradiol ten micrograms (as estradiol hemihydrate). Each vaginal tablet contains ten micrograms of estradiol (as estradiol hemihydrate).
