What is Voltarol Back and Muscle Pain Relief 1.16% Gel with No Mess Applicator
The No Mess Back and Muscle Pain Relief Gel delivers targeted pain relief with the additional benefit of a No Mess Applicator. This innovative applicator allows easy, clean application of the Voltarol Gel directly on the point of pain. For targeted local relief for pain and swelling (inflammation) in muscles, back and neck, as well as sprains, strains and bruises.
How does Voltarol Back and Muscle Pain Relief 1.16% Gel work
Unlike products* that work by only cooling or heating the skin, Voltarol Back and Muscle Pain Relief Gel with a No Mess Applicator contains a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) called diclofenac which targets pain at its source. The Emulgel technology helps the gel to penetrate deeply into the skin to enhance the delivery of diclofenac to the point of pain. The gel works by blocking the production of some of the body’s chemicals that cause swelling (inflammation), pain and tenderness. Voltarol Back and Muscle Pain Relief Gel with a No Mess Applicator has shown to be effective in providing relief and reducing neck pain compared to non-medicated gel.
*cooling gels and heat patches
The active ingredient in Voltarol Back and Muscle Pain Relief Gel with a No Mess Applicator, diclofenac, has been used as a pain reliever for 30 years in the UK. The Emulgel formula provides both the benefits of moisturising cream and a cooling gel.
How to use Voltarol Back and Muscle Pain Relief 1.16% Gel
Gently rub or massage a small amount of gel into the skin around the painful or swollen area. An amount ranging in size from 1 penny to a 2 pence piece will usually be sufficient. However, the amount of gel needed will vary depending upon the size of the painful or swollen area (maximum daily dosage 16g). Apply 3 to 4 times a day unless your doctor, general practitioner or pharmacist tells you otherwise, and allow at least 4 hours between applications of the gel. Do not apply more than 4 times in any 24 hour period.
Consult your doctor if pain and swelling do not improve within 7 days. Do not use the gel for longer than 7 days unless the longer treatment has been recommended by a doctor. The gel is not recommended for use in children under 14 years of age.
Voltarol Back and Muscle Pain Relief Gel with a No Mess Applicator has a pleasant smell and will not stain clothing. It is neither greasy nor sticky and is easy to rub into the skin.
Contains diclofenac diethylammonium. Always read the label.

- Place the tablet high up along your top gum, under the upper lip either side of your mouth as indicated above. The tablet must not be swallowed whole or chewed.
- The tablet will soften and adhere to the gum. Allow it to dissolve slowly and completely - this may take between 1 and 2 hours. Most people find that after a few minutes they no longer notice the tablet.
- The tablet should not be moved about the mouth with the tongue as this will cause it to dissolve too quickly.

- The tablet(s) is best taken after meals.

Each tablet contains 3 mg of the active ingredient prochlorperazine maleate.

Unlike heat patches, the plaster contains an anti-inflammatory. It penetrates deep to the source of pain to provide powerful pain relief. The plaster also provides 12 hours continuous release of the active ingredient (diclofenac) to the site of pain. This means the plaster only needs to be applied once in the morning and once in the evening to provide effective pain relief. The plaster format also means the product is very discreet: it is odourless and sticks firmly, whilst being only 1mm thin and very flexible.
How to use Voltarol 140mg Medicated Plaster
Attach one medicated plaster to the painful area twice daily, one in the morning and one in the evening.
Voltarol Medicated Plaster can be worn under clothing. To apply the plaster remove one of the two protective films, then apply to the area to be treated and remove the remaining protective film. Apply slight pressure with the palm of your hand until the plaster sticks firmly to your skin. The maximum daily dosage is 2 medicated plasters, even if there is more than one painful area to be treated, only treat one painful area at a time.
Voltarol Medicated Plaster should not be used at the same time as other diclofenac-containing medicines or other topical or oral NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen or aspirin. Do not use the plaster for longer than 7 days. Consult your doctor if pain and swelling do not improve or worsen within 7 days. Use for the shortest time required to relieve pain. The plaster is not recommended for use in children under 16 years of age.
