Ovex Suspension Banana Flavour - 30ml
WormsIn stockMore InformationWhat is Ovex Suspension?
Ovex Suspension is a medicine, which is used to treat threadworm (sometimes known as pinworm) infections of the gut. The medicine contains mebendazole, which is one of a group of medicines called 'anthelmintics'.
This medicine is for use in adults and children aged over 2 years.
What are threadworms?
Threadworms (Enterobius vermicularis) are tiny white parasitic worms that live in the bowel. They are approximately half an inch long and resemble threads of white cotton – hence the name threadworms.
How common are threadworms?
Threadworms are extremely common, especially in children. It is estimated that up to 40% of children under ten years in the UK may be affected at any one time. Once a child has threadworms, it is very easy for the rest of the family to get them.
How do threadworms spread?
Threadworms spread by producing large numbers of tiny eggs. These eggs are so small that they cannot be seen with the naked eye. When swallowed, the eggs pass into the bowel where they hatch into worms. When mature, the female threadworm lays her eggs at night around the anal area, which causes an "itchy bottom". The resulting irritation can cause intense scratching, which may lead to further infections if the skin becomes sore or broken. Scratching also allows transfer of the eggs to the fingers and nails. Eggs can then be easily transferred to the mouth by finger sucking or nail biting, causing re-infection, and spread to other members of the family by direct contact or via food, towels and bed linen etc.
Threadworm eggs are present in house dust; they stick to clothing, carpets, towels and bed linen; they can also be picked up on unwashed vegetables and salads. Because the eggs are so small and so widespread, it is very easy for them to be swallowed.
Lifecycle of threadworms
2 - 6 weeks.
- Scratching the bottom transfers eggs to fingers and from there back to the mouth or to others either by direct contact or via food, bed linen etc.
- Eggs swallowed.
- Female worms migrate to the anal area to lay eggs at night.
Are threadworms harmful?
Threadworms do not cause serious damage but they are an irritating problem. Besides the intense itching, which can be distressing and embarrassing for the sufferer, they can also lead to disturbed sleep, tummy aches, irritable crying, loss of appetite or an unusually large appetite. Sometimes, threadworms can be transferred to the vagina and urinary passage. This can result in vaginal irritation and discharge, symptoms of cystitis or bed wetting.
Who gets threadworms?
Anyone, although they are more common in children. It does not mean that your family or your home are not clean. Because threadworms are passed on very easily it is a wise precaution to treat everyone in the family at the same time.
How can you tell if someone has threadworms?
The most obvious sign of threadworms is intense itching in the anal area, especially at night, although this does not affect everyone. If your children frequently scratch their bottoms, suffer from disturbed sleep or become irritable, it is worth checking their motions and the anal area for tiny white threads. If one member of the family has threadworms, the rest of the family may already have picked up the infection, even if they do not have obvious symptoms. Important note: Threadworms only affect humans, they do not affect pets.
General advice about threadworms
To ensure that you and your family do not infect others or re-infect yourselves, you should also follow the hygiene measures listed below for at least six weeks:
- Keep nails short.
- Discourage nail biting or finger sucking.
- Wear pyjamas or underclothes in bed.
- In the mornings, wash thoroughly around the bottom.
- Provide a towel for the exclusive use of each member of the household.
- Change clothes regularly.
- Regularly wash and iron bed linen.
- Thoroughly wash hands and nails after using the toilet and before each meal.
Do you need to keep your children off school?
No. As long as the children are treated and the general hygiene measures outlined above are followed, there is no reason to keep them off school.
How can you stop threadworms from coming back?
Threadworms are easily treated but unless the following precautions are taken the problem may recur:
- Follow the general advice above.
- Make sure everyone in the family is treated at the same time.

Undisturbed Rest - Breathe right strips are gentle on skin, easy to remove, and comfortable to wear.
What are the causes of nasal congestion?
Colds - When you have a cold, the lining of your nasal cavities swells with excess fluid, making it difficult to breathe.
Allergies - When allergens are present, your immune system responds by releasing chemicals that create inflammation in your nose. This can cause nasal congestion, sneezing, and a runny nose.
Deviated Septum - People who suffer from a deviated septum are generally all too familiar with breathing problems. The septum is the cartilage that separates the nostrils.
How do Breathe Right Natural Nasal Strips work?
Breathe Right nasal strips are made of flexible, spring-like bands that fit right above the flare of the nostrils. A sticky adhesive is used to lift the sides of the nose and open the nasal passages, making it easier to breathe for a more restful night of sleep.
How to use Breathe Right Natural Nasal Strips
- Before Applying - Wash and dry your nose thoroughly. Dirt, oils, moisturisers and makeup can weaken the adhesive.
- Place - Remove the protective liner and place the strip centred along the width of your nose. The tabs on the strip should rest right at the start of the flaring part of each nostril.
- Apply - Press and hold down the strip until the strip is secure on your nose.
- Remove - Wash your face with warm water and start to loosen the strip from each end, gently lifting the strip off your nose

It can also be used to treat the symptoms of urticaria, also known as hives, where the skin looks blotchy with white raised wheals (bumps) surrounded by redness. This medicine is for use in adults under 65 years old and children aged 12 years and over.
Common Allergy Symptoms
Itchy Eyes - Allergy eyes are one of the most uncomfortable symptoms of hay fever. They’ll often feel irritated, sore or swollen, and can be an annoying distraction throughout the day. Pollen is a fine powder that can easily get into the eyes. Your body’s natural defence is to create histamine, but although this is meant to help, it’s what actually causes that itchy feeling!
Itchy Runny Nose - When you have allergies, your body reacts to things that aren't really harmful, like pollen, dust mites, mould, or pet dander. It releases histamine, a chemical that causes swelling and inflammation. The blood vessels in your eyes swell and your eyes get red, teary, and itchy.
Sneezing - Unlike the type of sneezing associated with a cold, allergy sneezing happens when airborne pollen finds its way into your nasal cavities and your body tries to force it out. It’s one of the most common rhinitis symptoms, so if you know you’re prone to it, we recommend always having some tissues handy
Common Sinus Congestion Symptoms
Sinus Pain - If you have sinus pain, it may feel like there’s pressure against your eyes, cheeks and forehead. This often worsens when you bend over or lie down. It usually goes hand-in-hand with other common sinus congestion symptoms, such as a blocked nose, tiredness, or even an achy feeling in your upper teeth.
Blocked Nose - A blocked nose is one of the most common symptoms of a cold — and also one of the most annoying! Your nose may also be runny, and you might find it hard to talk or breathe normally. It’s often believed a blocked nose is caused by the build-up of mucus, but that blocked feeling is actually down to inflamed blood vessels in the nose cavity.
Headache - If you have a headache and feel generally unwell, chances are you have a head cold. It’s just like a common cold, but the symptoms are mostly felt around your face and sinuses. Remember, there are many other headache causes, so if it persists, you should always go and see a doctor.
How to take Benadryl Allergy Relief Capsules

Allergies & HayfeverIn stockGet started£15.34What are Catacrom Eye Drops
Catacrom Eye Drops are for the relief and treatment of allergic red, watery, itchy and puffy eyes caused by hayfever, house mites, and other causes of allergy such as pet hairs. Eye allergy can happen when sensitive eyes are exposed to these causes of allergy.
Catacrom Eye Drops is a medicine that affects cells called mast cells. It prevents them from releasing chemical substances that cause redness, watering, itching, and puffiness of allergic reactions.
These eye drops can be used by wearers of rigid or gas permeable contact lenses and can be used by people who are sensitive to preservatives in other kinds of eye drops.
How to use Catacrom Eye Drops
Catacrom Eye Drops are for use in the eye only.
Usual Dose
Catacrom Eye Drops are suitable for use in adults, the elderly and children.
The drops are in single-dose units. Put one or two drops into each eye four times a day, or as directed by your doctor. Avoid touching the eye with the dropper.
Read the instructions on the carton carefully. Wash your hands before and after you use these eye drops.
Steps for Using Catacrom Eye Drops
- Break off one unit dose container from the strip.
- Open the unit dose container by bending/twisting the tab (Figure 1).
- Tilt your head backwards.
- Gently pull down the lower lid to form a pouch (Figure 2).
- With the unit dose in the other hand, put one drop inside the pouch by gently squeezing the container. Try not to touch anything with the tip (Figure 3).
- Close the eye for about 30 seconds and at the same time gently press a finger against the corner of the closed eye, nearest the nose. (Figure 4).
- Some drops may roll down your face. This is normal. The eye holds less than one drop. Wipe away the excess with a clean tissue. If the drop of medication is not retained for any reason, another drop should be dropped into the eye pouch.
- If you use more than one type of eye drop, wait five minutes before putting in the next one. This prevents the first drop from being washed away.
- Repeat instructions 3-8 for the other eye.
