What are piles?
Piles (haemorrhoids) are swollen blood vessels which occur inside or outside the back passage (anus).
Some people have piles without experiencing any symptoms, but sufferers may notice the following:
- Bleeding: Although streaks of bright red blood on the toilet paper are not uncommon in people with piles, it may be a sign of a more serious condition and you should see your doctor to check this.
- Swelling: The swollen blood vessels may be felt as a lump or blockage in the anus.
- Pain, itching and irritation in the anal region.
At least 40% of people suffer from piles at some time in their lives. However, many people are too embarrassed to seek advice or treatment and, as a result, experience unnecessary discomfort.
Fortunately, there is much you can do to ease the situation and relieve the symptoms.
What causes piles?
Several factors can contribute to the development of piles:
- The most common cause is straining during a bowel movement, usually because of constipation.
- During pregnancy, the growing baby exerts increased pressure on the anal vessels, which can lead to piles.
- Heredity: you may be more likely to develop piles if your family has a history of suffering.
A Healthy Living Plan for Piles Sufferers
You can reduce the risk of piles by following a healthy diet and lifestyle that helps to keep your bowels working regularly and prevents constipation. This can also help to speed recovery from piles.
- Eat a high fibre diet including foods like brown rice, wholemeal bread, wholewheat pasta etc.
- Eat plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, and salads.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Don't eat too much salty, fatty, or sugary foods such as crisps, burgers, and cakes.
- Cut back on the amount of alcohol, tea, and coffee you drink.
- Exercise regularly.
A healthy diet and lifestyle will reduce the likelihood of constipation and encourage a regular bowel habit. Go to the toilet regularly and try to avoid straining. Leaning forward from the hips may help.
How to use Anusol Soothing Relief Suppositories
Anusol Soothing Relief Suppositories should be inserted into the anus
- Wash anal area and dry gently with a soft towel before using this medicine.
- Remove plastic cover from the suppository before use.
- Wash your hands before and after using Anusol.

30 Loperamide Hydrochloride Diarrhoea Relief 2mg Capsules
DiarrhoeaIn stockMore InformationWhat is Loperamide Hydrochloride, and when is it used?
Loperamide is a medicine to treat Diarrhoea (runny poo). It can also help with short term diarrhoea or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Loperamide is also used for long-lasting Diarrhoea from bowel problems such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and short bowel syndrome. If you have a colostomy to give you a stoma (an opening in your stomach to collect poo from your body), Loperamide can help to slow down your bowel and make your poo thicker.
Key facts of Loperamide
- Diarrhoea which starts suddenly usually gets better on its own within 5 to 7 days. If you need immediate, short term relief, taking Loperamide can cut down the number of times you go to the toilet, and it makes your poo less watery.
- Adults should take 2 tablets or capsules straight away if they suffer from short term diarrhoea. After this take 1 each time you do a runny poo.
- Don't exceed the recommended amount. Exceeding the recommended amount can lead to serious heart problems (including a fast or irregular heartbeat).
How will it treat my symptoms?
Loperamide works by slowing down the muscle movements in your gut, so an increased amount of water is absorbed from your stools. This leads to your stools becoming firmer, and they're passed less frequently.
What causes Diarrhoea?
Diarrhoea is usually caused by a bowel infection known as gastroenteritis. Other known causes are:
- Alcohol
- Appendicitis
- Food allergy
If you are taking any other medicine currently, check the side effects to make sure that they do not cause Diarrhoea. Chronic or long-term Diarrhoea can be a symptom of a more severe condition, such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

DiarrhoeaIn stockMore InformationWhat is Enterosgel Intestinal Toxin Binding Adsorbent Gel
Enterosgel is easy to take, diluted in water, it has no taste or colour. This is the right package for a course of prophylactic detoxification to treat viral or bacterial diarrhoea.
Enterosgel is based on an organic mineral with adsorption capacity towards toxic and harmful substances in the gut, physically binding them to its surface, reducing stool frequency and duration of diarrhoea.
Enterosgel is expelled from the body with the stool, along with the adsorbed toxins, which can be beneficial for treating acute diarrhoea and diarrhoea predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D). Enterosgel does not remove any good bacteria from the gut.
- Safe and gentle IBS-D treatment
- Drug-free IBS-D and Acute Diarrhoea relief
- Suitable for adults and children aged 1+
- Free from sugar, gluten and preservatives
- Suitable for vegans and vegetarians
- Helping diarrhoea sufferers for over 30 years
What Makes Enterosgel Different?
Enterosgel is different from other IBS-D and Acute Diarrhoea treatments. It targets the cause of the gastrointestinal symptoms by binding the bacterial toxins and other harmful substances and expelling them from the body via the stool.
Most products designed to treat IBS and diarrhoea are antimotility or antispasmodic medicines. They work by slowing the natural movements of the gut by relaxing the muscles in the stomach and intestines. Unlike Enterosgel, these medicines do not clear the body of the bacterial toxins and other substances that can cause IBS and diarrhoea.
How to use Enterosgel Intestinal Toxin Binding Adsorbent Gel
Enterosgel must be taken 2 hours before or after a meal or taking oral medication and needs to be diluted with water and taken orally.
For Acute Diarrhoea, the recommended duration of treatment is 3-5 days.
For chronic IBS-D, the recommended duration of a treatment course is up to 21 days, followed by a short break.

Imodium Classic (2mg) - 12 Capsules
IBSIn stockMore InformationWhat are Imodium Capsules?
Imodium Classic Capsules is a treatment that can help ease two distinct kinds of diarrhoea. If you are suffering from brief-term diarrhoea or diarrhoea brought on by IBS, this medication can help reduce your symptoms and lessen the number of times you will need to visit the bathroom.
The capsules contain loperamide hydrochloride, a substance that helps reduce diarrhoea by slowing down an overactive bowel. This allows water and salts that are usually lost in diarrhoea to be absorbed by the body.
What causes diarrhoea?
The most frequent causes of short term diarrhoea are gut bugs and food poisoning, each of which will usually clear themselves up in seven days. But, you might even experience diarrhoea in case you've got long-term conditions such as food allergies or intolerance, IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), or coeliac disease.
How can Loperamide 2mg cure my diarrhoea?
The 2mg of Loperamide in each Imodium Classic Capsule helps you to deal with diarrhoea by slowing your overactive gut. This lowers the number of times you'll have to visit the bathroom and provides your body with the opportunity to consume the water and additives which are typically lost when you have diarrhoea.
How to take Imodium Capsules
To begin your therapy, consume two Imodium Capsules with a drink of water, then take another capsule after each loose bowel movement. Don't take more than six capsules in any 24 hours. Don't forget to drink more fluids than usual to replace the fluid that your body loses when you've got diarrhoea.
How long to take Loperamide 2mg for?
If you're treating short term diarrhoea, then you shouldn't take Imodium Loperamide Capsules for over two days. If your diarrhoea lasts more than this, cease use and talk to your physician. If you're treating diarrhoea brought on by IBS, then you can take this medication for as much as two weeks at a time to deal with repeated attacks. But, you shouldn't take this product to take care of any attack that lasts more than two days. Speak with your health care provider if your diarrhoea lasts for over 48 hours or if your symptoms haven't improved after two weeks.
