What are Germoloids Suppositores
Haemorrhoids (also known as piles) are swollen or enlarged blood vessels which can cause discomfort, itching and irritation, particularly after a bowel movement. They may be either internal (inside the anus) or external (outside the anus).
Germoloids Suppositories are used to relieve the symptoms of pain, swelling and irritation associated with internal haemorrhoids and anal itching (pruritus ani). The suppositories contain two active substances: zinc oxide and lidocaine. Zinc oxide has astringent properties (causes contraction when applied to the skin), which help to shrink swelling. It also helps to soothe and protect the area around the anus from damage and has mild antiseptic properties. Lidocaine is a local anaesthetic that helps soothe swelling, pain and irritation and relieve itching. The suppository base acts as a lubricant and emollient to help the passing of stools and reduce straining during bowel movement, which is bad for haemorrhoids.
How to use Germoloids Suppositores
Wash your hands before and after using the suppository.
Adults and children aged 12 years and over:
The suppositories are only for use inside the anus.
- Gently clean and dry the area around the anus.
- Tear down on the perforation to remove one suppository from the strip.
- Peel apart the blister to remove the suppository.
- Insert the suppository into the anus (round end first).
Insert one suppository into the anus when you go to bed at night and one in the morning, preferably after a bowel movement. If necessary, the suppositories may be used at any time during the day, with a minimum of 3 to 4 hours between suppositories. Do not use more than four suppositories in any 24 hours.
Germoloids Suppositories are not recommended for children under the age of 12 years unless they are used under the supervision of a doctor.
If you have any other questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
What does Germoloids Suppositores contain
The active substances are zinc oxide (283.5 mg) and lidocaine hydrochloride (13.2 mg).
The other ingredients are fat suppository base, methyl salicylate and glyceryl tristearate.

What are piles?
Piles (haemorrhoids) are swollen blood vessels which occur inside or outside the back passage (anus).
Some people have piles without experiencing any symptoms, but sufferers may notice the following:
- Bleeding: Although streaks of bright red blood on the toilet paper are not uncommon in people with piles, it may be a sign of a more serious condition and you should see your doctor to check this.
- Swelling: The swollen blood vessels may be felt as a lump or blockage in the anus.
- Pain, itching and irritation in the anal region.
At least 40% of people suffer from piles at some time in their lives. However, many people are too embarrassed to seek advice or treatment and, as a result, experience unnecessary discomfort.
Fortunately, there is much you can do to ease the situation and relieve the symptoms.
What causes piles?
Several factors can contribute to the development of piles:
- The most common cause is straining during a bowel movement, usually because of constipation.
- During pregnancy, the growing baby exerts increased pressure on the anal vessels, which can lead to piles.
- Heredity: you may be more likely to develop piles if your family has a history of suffering.
A Healthy Living Plan for Piles Sufferers
You can reduce the risk of piles by following a healthy diet and lifestyle that helps to keep your bowels working regularly and prevents constipation. This can also help to speed recovery from piles.
- Eat a high fibre diet including foods like brown rice, wholemeal bread, wholewheat pasta etc.
- Eat plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, and salads.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Don't eat too much salty, fatty, or sugary foods such as crisps, burgers, and cakes.
- Cut back on the amount of alcohol, tea, and coffee you drink.
- Exercise regularly.
A healthy diet and lifestyle will reduce the likelihood of constipation and encourage a regular bowel habit. Go to the toilet regularly and try to avoid straining. Leaning forward from the hips may help.
