Product details

What is Clotrimazole Cream 1% Fungal Treatment?

The active substance is clotrimazole. Clotrimazole belongs to a group of medicines called imidazoles and is an antifungal agent which fights the cause of fungal skin infections.

Clotrimazole is used to treat fungal skin infections such as ringworm, athlete’s foot, fungal nappy rash and fungal sweat rash. It is also used to relieve irritation of the vulva (external thrush) or the end of the penis, which may be associated with thrush.

When Clotrimazole is applied to the infected area of skin, it works by destroying the fungus or yeast which has caused the infection.

How to use Clotrimazole Cream 1% Fungal Treatment

  • Before use, pierce the tube seal by inverting the cap over the end of the tube and press.
  • If the feet are infected, they should be washed and dried thoroughly, especially between the toes, before applying the cream.
  • Clotrimazole should be applied thinly and evenly to the affected areas, two or three times daily and rubbed in gently.
  • A strip of cream (½ cm long) is enough to treat an area of about the size of the hand.
  • The duration of the treatment depends upon the type of infection. Use the cream for at least two weeks for candida (thrush) infections or at least one month for other infections.
  • If you have athlete’s foot, it may help to use an antifungal dusting powder as well. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to recommend one.

The symptoms of skin infection such as itching or soreness should improve within a few days of treatment, although signs such as redness and scaling may take longer to disappear. If symptoms persist, consult your doctor.

What does Clotrimazole Cream 1% Fungal Treatment contain

The active substance is clotrimazole. Each gram of cream contains 10 mg of clotrimazole (i.e. 1% w/w).

    What is Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream?

Canesten Hydrocortisone is used to treat athlete’s foot and fungal sweat rash when there are additional symptoms of inflammation (such as swelling, redness and itching).

Canesten Hydrocortisone treats the fungal skin infection and reduces the swelling and itching caused by it.

The active substances in Canesten Hydrocortisone are clotrimazole and hydrocortisone acetate. Clotrimazole belongs to a group of medicines called imidazoles, which destroy the fungi and some bacteria that cause skin infections. Hydrocortisone acetate is a mild steroid which reduces swelling, redness and itching associated with inflammation of the skin.

    What are fungal infections?

Fungal infections are very common and affect many people. Two of the most common fungal skin infections include athlete’s foot and sweat rash.

There are two main types of fungal infection:

    • The tinea group, also known as dermatophytes.
    • The candida group, also known as yeasts.

The tinea group includes athlete’s foot which is easily spread by contact. The fungus that causes athlete’s foot usually lives harmlessly on our skin and in our environment. The natural balance that normally keeps it under control can be upset by factors such as damp, moist conditions. This could happen, for example, through regularly wearing training shoes that keep the feet hot and sweaty. Since this fungus is contagious, it can also often be picked up in changing rooms. The main symptom is an itchy, scaly and irritating rash.

The candida group can be responsible for conditions such as sweat rash. Sweat rash can appear anywhere on the body but is more likely to occur where folds of skin rub against each other, such as: under the breasts, under arms, around the groin and on the back. Candida is a yeast-like fungus that usually lives harmlessly on our skin. However, the natural balance that normally keeps it under control can be upset by factors such as sweating, tight or synthetic clothing and cosmetic preparations such as bath additives. When levels of the yeast increase, the skin can develop the following symptoms: persistent burning and itching, soreness and a variety of patches or blemishes as well as a softened and soggy appearance.

How to use Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream

    • Before use, pierce the tube seal by inverting the cap over the end of the tube and press.
    • If the feet are infected, they should be washed and dried thoroughly, especially between the toes, before applying the cream.
    • Canesten Hydrocortisone should be applied thinly and evenly to the affected areas twice daily and rubbed in gently. Approximately 1cm of cream per application should be enough.
    • Do not cover the area being treated with a dressing or bandage.
    • As with all products containing hydrocortisone, you should wash your hands immediately after applying the cream.

The symptoms of a skin infection, such as itching or soreness should improve within a few days of treatment although signs such as redness and scaling may take longer to disappear. If the symptoms persist or do not start to improve after seven days, consult your doctor.

You can help the treatment to work if you follow these simple self-help tips:

    • Although the infected area will itch, try not to scratch. Scratching will damage the surface of the skin and cause the infection to spread further.
    • Keep the affected skin areas clean.
    • Pay particular attention to drying the skin, but avoid excessive rubbing.
    • Do not share towels, bath mats, etc. with other people as you could spread the infection to them.
    • Always wash your hands after treating the infection to prevent it from spreading.

    If you have athlete’s foot:

    • Remember to dry the skin between the toes thoroughly.
    • Wash your socks, stockings and tights thoroughly in hot water to remove any shed skin or fungal spores.
    • Change your footwear daily if possible.

What does Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream contain?

The active substances are clotrimazole and hydrocortisone acetate. Each gram of cream contains 10mg clotrimazole and 11.2mg hydrocortisone acetate (equivalent to 10mg hydrocortisone).

What is Eumovate Eczema and Dermatitis Cream 0.05%?

Eumovate is used for the short-term treatment and control of patches of red, itchy skin caused by eczema and dermatitis. The cream stops the skin’s over-reaction to the triggers that cause skin flare-ups, such as eczema or dermatitis. The active ingredient is clobetasone butyrate, a topical corticosteroid to control skin inflammation. The cream base also has moisturising properties.

When can I use Eumovate Cream?

Eumovate cream contains a steroid that reduces inflammation and flare-ups of psoriasis or eczema, often associated with swelling, itching, redness and irritation.

What is eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis?

Eczema is a dry skin condition which makes skin feel itchy, dry and irritated. Dermatitis is a sort of inflammation triggered when the skin comes in contact with something irritable, like harsh additives or disinfectants. Psoriasis is characterised by flaky, red skin patches covered in silver scales, which may be sore and itchy. Flare-ups of eczema and psoriasis may involve:

    • Dry skin
    • Redness
    • Itching
    • Blisters
    • Cracked skin
    • Inflammation

    Managing eczema and dermatitis

Skin specialist advice - Skin specialists often advise people with eczema or dermatitis to use emollient (moisturising) skin products, including creams and bath oils, to keep moisture in the skin. This can make your skin more resistant to flare-ups. Avoid using soap and heavily scented products.

If a rash comes back - Sometimes people with dermatitis find their rash soon comes back after treatment or never disappears completely. This is often because they are still in contact with their trigger, i.e. what causes the reaction.

Common triggers of eczema and dermatitis include:

    • Jewellery, including earrings or studs (especially gold-plated earrings)
    • Coins
    • Watch buckles, metal straps or the metal back of a watch
    • Metal studs or fastenings on jeans, bras or underwear.

All of these have a metal in them called nickel, which is a very common trigger. If you react badly to nickel, all of the triggers in the list could be a problem. So, if you’ve reacted badly to one of the common triggers, you’ll need to watch out for the other common triggers.

Other common triggers of eczema and dermatitis include:

    • In the home: such as plasters, furniture polish, varnishes, rubber gloves or elastic in clothes
    • In substances you use at work, such as glues, oils, lubricants or cement
    • In the garden: certain plants and weeds, gardening gloves.

    How to use Eumovate Cream

    • Adults and children 12 years and over: Use the cream once or twice daily for up to 7 days.
    • Wash and dry your hands.
    • Squeeze out the correct amount of cream onto your index finger.
    • Half a fingertip will cover a patch of skin the same size as the palm of your hand.
    • Gently rub cream into the skin you are treating once or twice a day.
    • Wash your hands again (unless it is your hands you are treating).

How much Eumovate Cream to use

    • Squeeze out the cream along the top of your index finger
    • Squeeze the cream halfway to your fingertip from the crease in your finger. This will cover a patch of skin the same size as the palm of your hand.
    • Use the fingertip unit as a guide. For smaller areas, use a smaller amount. This cream is not meant to treat large areas.
    • If you use too much of the cream by mistake, don’t worry – but try to keep to the fingertip unit.
    • Half a fingertip will cover a patch of skin the same size as the palm of your hand.

    Important information about Eumovate

Eumovate contains a moderate steroid and should only be used for short-term use (maximum one week). Thin layers of Eumovate must be applied, as steroids thin the skin. Eumovate cannot be applied to infected, oozing skin or open wounds. If the condition does not improve or worsens after using Eumovate, then treatment should be discontinued, and you should consult your doctor. Eumovate must not be applied to the genital or facial regions.

What is Amorolfine 5% Nail Lacquer?

Amorolfine 5% w/v is used to treat:

    • Fungal infections of the nails without the involvement of the nail root (nail matrix)
    • Fungal infections affecting up to 2 nails and affecting the upper half or sides of the nail (as shown in the first picture below). If the infection appears to be more like pictures 2 or 3; you should consult your doctor.
    • The active substance in Amorolfine 5% w/v is amorolfine (as the hydrochloride) which belongs to a group of medicines known as antifungals.
    • Amorolfine 5% w/v kills a wide variety of fungi that can cause nail infections. Fungal nail infection is likely to result in discoloured (white, yellow, or brown), thick or brittle nails, although their appearance can vary considerably.

How to use Amorolfine 5% Nail Lacquer

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, Amorolfine 5% w/v is used as follows:

    • Treat your infected nails as described below. NAILS SHOULD BE TREATED ONCE A WEEK.
    • Once weekly application should continue for six months for fingernails and 9 to 12 months for toenails.
    • Nails grow slowly so it may take 2 or 3 months before you start to see an improvement.
    • It is vital to carry on using the nail lacquer until the infection has cleared and healthy nails have grown back.
    • The following steps should be followed carefully for each affected nail:

    Step 1: File the nail

Using a new file, gently file down the infected areas of nail, including the nail surface. Protect any healthy nails while you are doing this so that you don't spread the infection.

CAUTION: Do not use the same nail file used for infected nails and healthy nails, as this could spread the infection as well.

To prevent the spread of infection, take care that no one else uses the files from your kit.

    Step 2: Clean the nail

Use one of the swabs provided (or nail varnish remover) to clean the nail surface. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for each affected nail.

    Step 3: Apply the lacquer

Dip one of the re-usable applicators into the bottle of nail lacquer. The lacquer must not be wiped off the edge of the bottle before it is applied. Apply the lacquer evenly over the entire surface of the nail. Repeat this step for each affected nail.

Let the treated nail(s) dry for approximately 10 minutes.

    Step 4: Clean the applicator

The applicators provided are re-usable. However, it is essential to clean them thoroughly after completing each treatment procedure, using the same swab you used for nail cleansing. Avoid touching newly treated nails with the swab. Close the nail lacquer bottle tightly. Dispose of the swab carefully as it is inflammable.

What does Amorolfine 5% w/v contain?

Amorolfine 5% w/v contains 50 mg/ml of the active substance amorolfine (equivalent to 55.74 mg/ml amorolfine hydrochloride).

What is Lamisil AT 1% Spray?

Lamisil AT 1% Spray contains the active ingredient terbinafine which is an antifungal used to treat skin problems caused by fungi in:

    • Athlete’s foot (tinea pedis) - Athlete’s foot appears only on the feet (usually both, but not always), where it often appears in between the toes. It can also appear on the instep, soles, or other areas of the feet. The most common type of athlete’s foot causes cracking or scaling of the skin, but you may also have mild swelling, blisters, or weeping ulcers. Lamisil AT 1% Spray is recommended for athlete’s foot when it occurs between the toes.
    • Dhobie itch/jock itch (tinea cruris) - Dhobie itch appears in the groin and inner thigh area, usually on both sides but often with one side more than the other, where it can spread further between the legs to the buttocks, or up towards the stomach. Dhobie itch looks like a clearly bordered rash, which may have blisters.

How to use Lamisil AT 1% Spray

Adults: Lamisil AT 1% Spray is applied once a day, for one week only, for all fungal infections.

    • Cleanse and dry the affected areas thoroughly and wash your hands. Treatment can be helped by keeping the affected areas clean by regular washing and careful drying with your own clean towels and clothes, and not rubbing or scratching the skin.
    • Remove the cap from the spray bottle - If using the medicine for the first time, press the pump a few times until you achieve an even spray.
    • Spray enough of the solution from a distance of 5 to 10 cm to thoroughly wet the affected skin. When used between the toes, buttocks or on the groin, the treated area may be covered with a light, fresh gauze strip, especially at night.
    • Replace the cap on the spray bottle and wash your hands.

Even though you will not be using Lamisil AT 1% Spray during the second week, full skin healing after the infection has cleared will continue for up to 4 weeks. If you have not noticed any signs of improvement within 2 weeks of first starting treatment, please seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist.

What is Canesten Thrush External Cream

Canesten Thrush External Cream relieves irritation of the vulva (vulvitis) which is caused by vaginal thrush (candidiasis).

Although this cream provides relief from the external irritation caused by vaginal thrush, it cannot treat any internal (vaginal) cause of the infection. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to recommend a treatment for this.

Only use this product if you have been previously diagnosed by your doctor as having vaginal thrush.

Some women suffer from recurrent attacks of thrush. To reduce the frequency of these attacks, the sexual partner’s penis can be treated with this cream to prevent re-infection, even if they have no symptoms of thrush.

The active substance in Canesten Thrush External Cream is clotrimazole. Clotrimazole belongs to a group of medicines called azoles and is an antifungal agent which fights the cause of infections such as vaginal thrush.

    Information about vaginal thrush

Vaginal thrush (candidiasis) is a common infection that most women suffer from at some time in their lives and is not caused by lack of personal hygiene.

Thrush is caused by a yeast (fungus) called Candida which lives harmlessly in the vagina and other parts of the body, without you even noticing it. However, the natural balance that keeps Candida under control can be upset by many factors such as hormonal changes (menstruation, contraceptive pill, pregnancy, menopause), poor health, antibiotics, perfumed soaps, bath additives and tight clothing.

If the natural pH balance is altered, the level of yeast increases and can develop into a thrush infection-causing any of the following symptoms: persistent burning and/or itching around the vagina and vulva, redness, swelling and soreness of the tissues of the vagina and vulva and a whitish, odourless discharge from the vagina. Not everybody who has thrush has all these symptoms; you may have only one of them.

How to avoid future recurrences of thrush

✓ Wear cotton knickers and loose clothing.

    ✓ Wash daily.

✓ After going to the toilet, wipe yourself from the front to back as a thrush infection may be transferred from the bowel.

✓ Change your sanitary protection regularly.

✗ Try to avoid wearing tights, nylon knickers and close-fitting jeans.

✗ Try to avoid washing with perfumed soaps or using vaginal deodorants.

✗ Do not wash or rub yourself hard with sponges or flannels and avoid hot baths with strong perfumed oils

If you are still worried or have any questions about the symptoms or the treatment of thrush, do not hesitate to ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

How to use Canesten Thrush External Cream

    Women:

If Canesten Thrush External Cream has been prescribed for you by your doctor, follow any instructions he/she may have given you. If you purchased this product without a prescription, follow these directions closely:

    • Before use, pierce the tube seal by inverting the cap over the end of the tube and press.
    • To treat the itching and soreness of the vulva (vulvitis), the cream should be thinly and evenly applied to the area around the entrance of the vagina, 2 or 3 times a day and smoothed in gently. A product to treat the internal (vaginal) infection should be used at the same time.

What is Lamisil AT 1% Cream?

Lamisil AT 1% Cream contains the active ingredient terbinafine hydrochloride which is an antifungal used to treat fungal skin infection, such as:

    • Athlete’s foot (tinea pedis) – Athlete’s foot appears only on the feet (usually both, but not always), usually in between the toes. It can also appear on the instep, soles, or other areas of the feet. The most common type of athlete’s foot causes cracking or scaling of the skin, but you may also have mild swelling, blisters, or weeping ulcers. Lamisil AT 1% Cream is recommended for athlete’s foot when it occurs between the toes. If you have a fungal nail infection (fungus inside and under the nail) with discolouration of the nails and changes in nail texture (thick or flaky), you should consult your doctor because Lamisil AT 1% Cream is not appropriate for this type of infection.
    • Dhobie itch/jock itch (tinea cruris) – Dhobie itch appears in the groin and inner thigh area, usually on both sides but often with one side more than the other, where it can spread further between the legs to the buttocks, or up towards the stomach. Dhobie itch looks like a clearly bordered rash, which may have blisters.

How to use Lamisil AT 1% Cream

Adults: For Athlete’s Foot and dhobie itch, apply the cream once a day, for one week.

    • Cleanse and dry the affected areas thoroughly and wash your hands. Treatment can be helped by keeping the affected areas clean by regular washing and careful drying with your own clean towels and clothes, and not rubbing or scratching the skin.
    • Unscrew the cap then gently squeeze out a small amount of the cream onto your finger.
    • Apply just enough cream to form a thin layer on the affected skin and surrounding areas.
    • Rub in gently. When used between the toes, buttocks or on the groin, the treated area may be covered with a light, fresh gauze strip, especially at night.
    • Replace the cap on the tube and wash your hands

Even though you will not be using Lamisil AT 1% Cream during the second week, full skin healing after the infection has cleared will continue for up to 4 weeks. If you have not noticed any signs of improvement within 2 weeks of first starting treatment, please seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist.
