30 Loperamide Hydrochloride Diarrhoea Relief 2mg Capsules
DiarrhoeaIn stockMore InformationWhat is Loperamide Hydrochloride, and when is it used?
Loperamide is a medicine to treat Diarrhoea (runny poo). It can also help with short term diarrhoea or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Loperamide is also used for long-lasting Diarrhoea from bowel problems such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and short bowel syndrome. If you have a colostomy to give you a stoma (an opening in your stomach to collect poo from your body), Loperamide can help to slow down your bowel and make your poo thicker.
Key facts of Loperamide
- Diarrhoea which starts suddenly usually gets better on its own within 5 to 7 days. If you need immediate, short term relief, taking Loperamide can cut down the number of times you go to the toilet, and it makes your poo less watery.
- Adults should take 2 tablets or capsules straight away if they suffer from short term diarrhoea. After this take 1 each time you do a runny poo.
- Don't exceed the recommended amount. Exceeding the recommended amount can lead to serious heart problems (including a fast or irregular heartbeat).
How will it treat my symptoms?
Loperamide works by slowing down the muscle movements in your gut, so an increased amount of water is absorbed from your stools. This leads to your stools becoming firmer, and they're passed less frequently.
What causes Diarrhoea?
Diarrhoea is usually caused by a bowel infection known as gastroenteritis. Other known causes are:
- Alcohol
- Appendicitis
- Food allergy
If you are taking any other medicine currently, check the side effects to make sure that they do not cause Diarrhoea. Chronic or long-term Diarrhoea can be a symptom of a more severe condition, such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Calcium/Zinc PVM/MA: Zinc helps stick to your dentures and maintain the proper grip so that you can talk, eat and chew more confidently. We are only using amounts of zinc that are safe to use, so you don´t need to worry.
Cellulose Gum: An ingredient that helps stick to your dentures. As they remain firmly in place, you can be more confident while eating and talking. Such binding agents are also commonly used as food additives in ice cream, mayonnaise, sauce, or jelly to provide improved consistency.
Mineral Oil: A thin, colourless and odourless component that carries other adhesive ingredients and helps in delivering the right texture thanks to its creamy consistency. It is well known from many cosmetics, such as skin moisturisers, make-up and baby oil.
Petrolatum: A little thicker, a smooth ingredient that helps in delivering the right denture cream texture so you can use the adhesive more easily. You might also know this from other products, such as Vaseline.
Silica: An ingredient that increases viscosity and makes the denture cream thicker. It helps in delivering the right cream consistency so you can apply the product easily. It is commonly used in make-up or toothpaste.
Colourants: An ingredient that helps the product achieve its gum-like colour, so in the event of oozing it is virtually invisible.
Flavour: An ingredient that helps in achieving the better taste of the adhesive, as other ingredients are not very tasty on their own.
Sodium Saccharin: Helps in achieving better taste. An artificial sweetener with effectively no food energy that helps in delivering the desired taste and sweetness of the adhesive, as other ingredients are not that tasty on their own. It is commonly used in toothpaste to provide a pleasant taste.
