Who is Pepto-Bismol Liquid acceptable for?

Pepto-Bismol Liquid is suitable for adults and children aged 16 and over only. It must not be used by anybody who is allergic to the ingredients contained in the liquid. These are:

• Bismuth subsalicylate

• Methylcellulose
• Methyl salicylate
• Salicylic acid
• Saccharin sodium
• Sodium salicylate
• Amaranth (E123)
• Sorbic Acid

It must also not be used by anybody who's using treatments like anticoagulant therapy (thinning of the blood). It must also not be used for someone who is treating diabetes.

How much Pepto-Bismol should I be taking?

It's strongly suggested that you take 30ml of liquid every day. This may be measured out in the provided dosing cup, or 5ml spoonfuls. Do not take more than eight doses at 24 hours.

How to take Pepto-Bismol Tablets

• Chew or dissolve two tablets (one dose) in your mouth. Repeat the dose every 30-60 minutes if necessary. Do not take more than 16 tablets in 24 hours. Only use as directed. If used for longer than 2 days or at higher doses than recommended, there is an increased possibility of side effects.

If you have diarrhoea, it is important to prevent or treat dehydration by drinking plenty of fluids or taking oral rehydration products, especially if you are frail or elderly. Do not exceed the stated dose or use after the expiry date stated on the side of the pack.
