What is conjunctivitis, blepharitis and styes?

Conjunctivitis is an eye condition commonly referred to as pink eye or reddish eye. It may be due to viral or bacterial infections, allergies, or sexually transmitted diseases. Common symptoms of conjunctivitis include:

    • Bloodshot or red eyes
    • Burning or soreness
    • "Gritty eyes"
    • Itching
    • Pus which sticks to eyelashes
    • Watery eyes

Blepharitis is inflammation of the eyelids.

Styes are small, sore lumps on or inside the eyelid.

This ointment cannot be used when wearing contact lenses or 24 hours after use.

Can I drive after using this ointment?

GoldenEye Antibiotic Ointment may cause blurry vision after application to the eye. Only drive or operate machinery if you feel confident with your sight.

Can I use this ointment when I am taking other medication?

If you are using other medications, then you should consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this product. This particularly applies to individuals that are taking bone marrow suppressant medications (e.g. azathioprine) or people that are receiving chemotherapy.

How to use GoldenEye Antibiotic Ointment

Before using this product, wash and dry your hands thoroughly. Lie down and remove the cap of the ointment tube. Hold the nozzle near the eye, ensuring that it does NOT touch the eye affected areas, as this will prolong recovery. Using your other hand, gently pull the lower eyelid down and look upward. Squeeze the tube gently to deposit 1cm of ointment into the pocket created in your lower eyelid. Close your eye for some time to distribute the ointment effectively. Repeat in the other eye if needed. For best results, use this product for five days. Stop using this product if your symptoms worsen.

What is Xailin Night Lubricating Eye Ointment?

Xailin Night Lubricating Eye Ointment provides substantial soothing relief of dry eyes, as it functions as a barrier against moisture loss. Ideal to be used at bedtime. Xailin Night Lubricating Eye Ointment provides soothing relief in the symptoms of dry eyes, like soreness, irritation, or even a gritty sensation. Dry eye symptoms happen because of ocular surface disorders which can be caused by many different motives where the ordinary tears are of poor quality or produced in too little quantity to maintain the eye sufficiently moistly.

Xailin Night Lubricating Eye Ointment is suitable for all ages and may be used by pregnant and breastfeeding women.

How to use Xailin Night Lubricating Eye Ointment

Apply a thin line of ointment about half an inch (1 centimetre), put in each eye if needed:

    • Rotate the cap anticlockwise to crack the seal.
    • Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before use.
    • Remove the outer cap.
    • If you are a contact lens wearer, remove your lenses.
    • Tilt your head back and lookup.
    • Gently pull down the lower lid of the eye to create a small pocket between your eyelid and your eye.
    • Hold the tube between the thumb and middle finger of the other hand, turn the tube upside down near to the eye, and then try not to touch the eye with the nozzle.
    • Apply sufficient pressure on the tube to discharge a thin line of ointment roughly half an inch (1 centimetre), or as directed by your doctor, pharmacist, or optician.
    • Blink your eye a couple of times.
    • If you missed the eye, then add the following line of ointment.
    • Carefully wipe away any excess Xailin Night round the eye with a tissue.
    • Repeat the procedure for the other eye, if required.
    • Replace the outer cap on the container, trying not to touch the applicator tip using anything, including the eye or your palms.
    • Leave at least 30 minutes between administrations of any other ophthalmic medicine.

What does Xailin Night Lubricating Eye Ointment contain?

    White Soft Paraffin 57.3% w/w, White Mineral Oil 42.5% w/w, Lanolin Alcohols 0.2% w/w.

    What are Dulcolax Tablets?

Dulcolax Tablets are used for the short-term relief of occasional constipation. Dulcolax Tablets contain bisacodyl and belong to a group of medicines known as stimulant laxatives, which increase bowel movements. This medicine does not help with weight loss.

    What is constipation?

Healthy and regular bowel movements are essential for most people. However, what is 'normal and regular' varies from person to person. Some may have a bowel movement every day, others less often. Whatever it is like for you, your bowel movement should have a regular pattern.

    • Constipation is an occasional problem for some people. For others, it may happen more often.
    • It happens when the typical muscle actions in the bowel (large intestine) slow down. This can mean that material is not easily eliminated from the body

The cause of constipation is often not known. It can be associated with:

    • A sudden change in diet
    • A diet with not enough fibre
    • Not drinking enough fluids.
    • Loss of 'tone' of the bowel muscles in older people
    • Pregnancy
    • Medicines such as morphine or codeine
    • Having to stay in bed for a long time
    • Lack of exercise

Whatever the cause, constipation can be uncomfortable. It may make you feel bloated and heavy or generally 'off-colour'. Sometimes it causes headaches.

It is recommended to use changes in diet and bulk forming medicines to control constipation before using this medicine.

These healthy tips are recommended to try to prevent constipation happening:

    • Eat a balanced diet including fresh fruit and vegetables
    • Drink enough water so that you do not become dehydrated
    • Keep up your exercise and stay fit
    • Make time to empty your bowels when your body tells you

    How to take Dulcolax Tablets

For constipation: Adults (including the elderly):

1 to 2 tablets at night.

    • Swallow the tablets whole with water. The tablets should not be chewed or crushed.
    • Milk, antacids or proton pump inhibitors (medicines which reduce stomach acid) should not be taken within one hour before or after taking Dulcolax Tablets. This is because they will stop the Dulcolax Tablets from working correctly.

If you have not taken Dulcolax Tablets before, start with one tablet and increase to two if necessary. When your bowel regularity has returned to normal, the dose can usually be stopped.

    Note:

    - This medication should NOT be taken for more than 5 days without medical supervision.

    - This medication is for short term use only.

    - This medication does NOT help with weight loss.

    Length of treatment

These tablets should not be taken every day for more than 5 days. If you need laxatives every day, then you should see your doctor to find the cause of your constipation. Overuse can be harmful.

    What do Dulcolax Tablets contain?

Each tablet contains 5 mg of bisacodyl as the active ingredient.

Treating Cough & Cold In Children

It's normal for children to get 8 or more colds in a year. Gradually they build up immunity and get fewer colds. Most colds get better within a few days and you may not need to do more than keep your child comfortable until they get over it. Because colds are caused by viruses, not bacteria, antibiotics don't help. Here are simple steps to help your child who has a cough or cold.

        • If they are hot/feverish: Increase the amount of fluid your child normally drinks. Lower their temperature with paracetamol or ibuprofen medicine which has doses for children. (Paracetamol is not for children under 2 months. Ibuprofen is not for children under 3 months.)
        • For coughs: Although it is distressing to hear your child cough, in fact, coughing serves a purpose. It helps clear phlegm on the chest and mucus from the nose. Give the child plenty of warm clear fluids to drink.
        • To help with breathing: Plain saline nose drops, available from your pharmacy, can help babies with blocked noses who are having trouble feeding.

How to take Benylin Children's 6+ Chesty Coughs
